From Glitches to Greatness: Navigating Common AV Hurdles in Commercial Spaces

Every business has audio visual technology that inevitably will run into issues. When it comes to our personal computers, restart is the go-to. But what are the steps for handling audio visual technical difficulties?

In this article, we will provide some tips that will give you an idea of what can possibly go wrong, and how to address common technical AV issues.

Quick ways to solve audio issues

Let's start with audio issues. Low volume, delayed sound, or choppy audio, feedback, echoes, and background noise can all cause problems during virtual meetings. Start by testing all the microphones and speakers before the meeting to ensure that everything works and the volume is at the right levels. If there is a video conferencing component, have someone call in beforehand to test it. Make sure there is enough distance between your microphones and other audio components to avoid feedback and echoes. Mute yourself when you're not talking to reduce background noise. Consider investing in dedicated sound gear, such as an external USB microphone or headphones with an integrated microphone, to prioritize your voice over the ambient sound.

Next: let’s see those visuals

Frozen video, blurry or flickering screens, low-quality video image, and an overworked processor can cause headaches. To fix these issues, run an internet speed test to ensure sufficient bandwidth and low latency. Use a wired Ethernet connection if available. Use a 5 GHz Wi-Fi connection instead of the more heavily used 2.4 GHz band. Ensure proper lighting to optimize your video calls. Use a dedicated video conferencing camera system. Close unnecessary programs and windows to reduce the usage of the processor.

Keep the connection running

Connectivity issues can also create challenges during virtual meetings. Unstable network connection, VPN connection problems, and browser issues are among some. To fix these issues, restart your computer, modem, or router to reset the network connection. Check that your VPN is enabled and working properly. Ensure that your browser is up-to-date and optimized for video conferencing. Try switching to a different browser or using a different device.

Projector issues

Lastly, if you encounter projector issues, make sure your projector is properly plugged into a working outlet and that the resolution is correctly set. Check if the cables are properly connected, and replace them if necessary. Make sure the device hasn't overheated and shut down, and check the temperature lights. If you are using a remote control to turn on the projector, check the batteries. Ensure all of the projector latches are closed.
