Making the Most of Business Tech Starts with Network Cabling
Connecting technology in your business starts with structured cabling and data wiring solutions. This essential first step lays the foundation for all technology that will be installed in the future. Next time your computer battery runs low, how close is the plug to charge it? Same is true for all of your connected devices. This is a silly example we can all relate to, but it does get more complex than that. In addition to building codes that need to be followed, there are industry best practices to ensure performance and reliability. BICSI created the standards that most companies follow (including our team).
Here are three things to consider when hiring a team for your next commercial buildout or business renovation:
Start with functionality.
What would you like to accomplish in this space? Take your customers and employees into consideration. The design process considers the experience of your customers, employees, and the security of the building itself. As an example, your customers might want to meet in a conference room with a TV wall (we cover some of the video wall options in another article). Your employees need a productive workspace with proper internet and phone connection, as well as laptops and second screens to work off.
All this technology must be secure in your business and that is where access points and security cameras come in. Cable verification is critical to ensure all installed cables – whether used now or in the future – are working properly.
Appearance matters.
The aesthetics of a place makes a difference. With different cable types for various applications, making sure that all are hidden is a part of the job. An experienced cabling installer will keep miles and miles of wires hidden while running these through the space. Commercial spaces of all sizes run into similar issues and we work with you to design and install network cabling that is out of sight and mind. Everything must be documented and labeled because in a building with thousands of cables, you or your IT personnel need to be able to look at your wall plate and locate it in your network room.
Safety matters, as much as appearance. When talking about safety, in structured cabling what we'd be looking at is the physical installation: where are the cable ladders? Or is all the physical hardware suspending the wire is safe? Is it rated to hold the weight? When it comes to cable jackets and air handling spaces, we want to make sure that we use specific types of cabling. In case the building catches fire, these cables will not add to the problem.
Streamline technology for scalability.
What are your long-term goals? Setting up the space for the future is smart and cost-effective. Business technology should make your operations easier rather than more stressful or challenging. As your business grows, the network infrastructure must be optimized for future business growth. This is an important conversation to have before structured cabling and data wiring take place. Our technicians are always more than happy to help design and install the best system that meets your unique needs.
